In honour of Canada’s 150th birthday, the theme of the 2017 Highland Heart Quilt Guild challenge was “Oh Canada!” All completed entries to the challenge had to relate to this theme, whether of a personal nature or public acknowledgment.
Participants had to use a minimum of 12 hexagon shaped quilt pieces of any size, made from, or containing the featured fabric (a multicoloured ‘sprinkle’ motif) on the front of the finished article.
The finished piece could be a wall quilt, wearable item or a usable article. Creativity was encouraged!
The article could be hand or machine stitched (or a combination of both). If not obvious, an explanation of how the item relates to the theme accompanies the quilt.
Prizes were awarded for first, second and third place, according to a member’s viewer’s choice poll. Winners were: 1st place: Dorinda McCully; 2nd place: Carolyn Hudson; 3rd place: Yvonne Lynch.
The Highland Quilt Guild meets every Wednesday evening from September to May in the Home Ec room of St. Andrews Junior School.
New members are always welcome!
Today, May 6th, we had a great sew day to work on quilts for the Ronald MacDonald House. We had 17 workers and will have 7 quilts to donate from our guild. This is part of Quilt Canada’s Canada’s Big Quilt Bee where Guilds from across Canada are making quilts to donate to Ronald MacDonald Houses.
